Kelly Slater venceu ontem o prémio Laureus na categoria "World Action Sportsperson of the Year".
O actual campeão mundial, que conquistou um histórico 10º título em 2010 viu assim reconhecido todo o seu domínio no surf de competição.
De referir que Slater já havia vencido este prémio em 2007 e 2009.
Nesta categoria também estavam nomeados a actual tetracampeã mundial, Stephanie Gilmore, o rider britânico de BMX, Jamie Bestwick, o windsurfista espanhol, Victor Fernandez, o rider neozelandês de motocross, Levi Sherwood e o snowboarder norte-americano, Shaun White.
